Best coffee scales for pour over: scales with timers for V60 and Chemex
Coffee scales for V60 and Chemex compared on resolution, timer, platform size and ratio features, with Hario UK, Redber and Lakeland prices checked 3 Oct 2026.

The best coffee scales for pour over do two jobs at once: they weigh the water as you pour, and they time the brew. For a V60 or Chemex you want 0.1g readings, a timer on the same screen, and a platform big enough for a jug or carafe. We haven’t tested this in person. This guide is based on product listings at Hario UK, Redber and Lakeland, with prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.
Best coffee scales for pour over: the short answer
Get the Rhino Coffee Brewing Scale 3kg if you want a capable pour-over scale for the least money. Check price at Redber. Redber lists 0.1g readings, a 3kg maximum, a timer and a 126 x 126mm platform.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants flow-rate or ratio help. It’s a scale and timer only.
Get the Timemore Basic 3 if you want a live flow-rate readout. It was £45.95 at Redber, checked 3 Oct 2026, which lists flow rate, ratio calculation, three timer modes and up to 24 hours of battery life per charge.
Who it isn’t for: anyone brewing big batches who wants 0.1g at every weight. Redber says the 0.1g accuracy applies under 1kg.
Get the Hario Polaris if you want the scale to do the maths. Check price at Redber, and £85 at Hario UK. Hario says it works out the water you need from your ratio and shows a percentage as you pour.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who’d rather not use AA batteries. Hario lists 3 x AA.
What pour-over scales cost
Our picks ranged from £19.99 for a kitchen scale to £85 for the Polaris at Hario UK, checked 3 Oct 2026.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who already owns a 0.1g scale with a timer. You don’t need another one.
What pour-over needs from a scale
- A timer on the scale. You track your bloom and pours against the clock. All five picks have a timer.
- 0.1g resolution. Useful for weighing the coffee dose. The Lakeland kitchen scale reads in 1g steps.
- Platform size. A Chemex or large server needs room. Redber says the Rhino’s platform suits a Chemex, and lists 126 x 126mm. Hario lists the Polaris at 127 x 165mm.
- Quick response. Hario says the V60 Drip Scale is “extremely responsive”. No listing gives a response time.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who brews by eye. If you don’t want to weigh, a scale won’t change much.
Do you need a scale for pour over?
You can brew a V60 with scoops and a measuring jug, but weighing makes it easier to repeat a recipe. The Polaris and Timemore go further, showing your ratio or flow rate as you pour.
Who it isn’t for: occasional brewers. A kitchen scale and phone timer will do.
The picks
Rhino Coffee Brewing Scale 3kg: check price at Redber. Redber lists a 3kg capacity, 0.1g readability, a timer, calibration, grams and ounces, auto-off, overload protection, a silicone heat pad and a white backlit display.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants USB charging. Redber says batteries are included, but not which type.
Timemore Basic 3: £45.95 at Redber, checked 3 Oct 2026. Redber lists an electromagnetic shield to reduce interference, a multifunction switch, flow-rate display, ratio calculation and three timer modes for brewing from espresso to pour-over.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a stated platform size. We couldn’t find one on the listing.
Hario Polaris: £85 at Hario UK, checked 3 Oct 2026; check price at Redber. Hario lists 127 x 165 x 28mm, about 500g, a 2,000g maximum and a count-up timer to 9 minutes 59 seconds. The body is ABS and acrylic resin, with a silicone non-slip pad.
Who it isn’t for: anyone brewing more than 2kg on the scale at once, such as a big Chemex with its water.
Hario V60 Drip Scale: £69.99 at Hario UK, checked 3 Oct 2026. Hario UK lists 0.1g accuracy, an integrated timer and auto power-off after 5 minutes, and says it’s designed to fit the V60 Drip Station.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a detailed spec sheet. Hario UK’s listing doesn’t give a maximum load or size.
Lakeland Digital Kitchen Weighing Scale: £19.99 at Lakeland. Lakeland lists a 5kg maximum in 1g steps, a 99-minute timer, add-and-weigh, and a 2.5-litre dishwasher-safe bowl. It switches off after 2 minutes if the weight doesn’t change.
Who it isn’t for: anyone pouring slowly. Lakeland says it switches off after 2 minutes if the weight is unchanged, which may catch you out during a long pause.
Downsides
- Battery details vary. Hario lists AA batteries for the Polaris. Timemore is rechargeable. Rhino doesn’t say which type.
- Missing specs. Several listings leave out the platform size or maximum load.
- Water on the scale. Only the Rhino listing mentions a heat and spill pad.
Budget option: kitchen scales
A kitchen scale like Lakeland’s works for weighing water, but 1g steps make small doses less exact. The On Balance Compact Bench Scales (3,000g x 0.1g) were also £24.95 at Redber, checked 3 Oct 2026. It’s a general-purpose 0.1g scale, though the listing name doesn’t mention a timer.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a coffee-specific display.
