Hoppin Hopper is mostly about making coffee at home, but sometimes you want someone else to make it. So we're putting together a small list of independent London shops, with the same approach as our kit guides: we build each write-up from the shop's own menu and opening hours, published write-ups and what customers say, and we cite every source. Hours and prices change, so each one shows when we checked.

No shop pays to be on this page, and paying will never get a shop into our picks.

Leather Lane, EC1

Prufrock Coffee

Prufrock has been on Leather Lane since 2011 and still runs barista training on site, so coffee is very much the point here. It was also named on the Best Coffee Shops UK 2026 list. From what we've read, it suits anyone after espresso, a rotating filter and a full brunch menu. It closes at 4:30pm on weekdays, though, so it's not one for after work.

Menu

Espresso drinks, a changing filter menu and a full brunch and breakfast menu, with food from £5 to £12.50.

Prices

Flat white £4.10, espresso or americano £3.80 (checked )

Holloway, N7

Rua Coffee Bar

Rua was Time Out's top pick for north London in September 2026, and The Infatuation reviewed it. From what we've read, the brewing is careful but the mood is relaxed. It's in a railway arch, with some tables kept laptop-free. We couldn't confirm its opening hours, so check hours with the shop before visiting.

Menu

Speciality coffee from rotating guest roasters, including AeroPress brews and seasonal cold brew drinks. Food includes burritos at weekends.

De Beauvoir, N1

Batch Baby

Batch Baby came first in Time Out's guide to London's best coffee shops in September 2026 and was its east London pick. It's run by its founders, open since 2021, inside the Rose Lipman Building, a 1970s brutalist community space. The focus is batch brew, guest roasters and tastings. There's no drinks menu online, so you won't know prices before you go.

Menu

Built around batch brew, with guest roasters and occasional cupping sessions. Food includes toasties. There's no drinks menu on the shop's website.

Penge, SE20

Carnival Coffee Roasters

Carnival roasts its coffee right in the shop and won Best Community Coffee Shop at the London Coffee Festival Awards 2026. For home brewers, the big draw is its bookable classes in home espresso and latte art, listed at £65 on its site. It's a small café with short hours: closed on Thursdays and shut by 2pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Menu

Coffee from its own roastery, with espresso and experimental pour-overs listed on its website. Beans are sold online too, but café drink prices aren't.

Barons Court, W6

Carbon Kopi

Carbon Kopi opened its first shop in Barons Court in 2019 and made the Best Coffee Shops UK 2026 list. It's a neighbourhood spot, and filter fans get a proper pour-over list as well as espresso. There's a second shop in Fulham, but these details are for Barons Court. Pour-overs start at £5.70, so they're a treat rather than an everyday cup.

Menu

House espresso from Plot Roasting plus guest roasters, V60 pour-overs and filter, with Estate Dairy milk. Food includes toasties (£8.95–£9.50) and pastries.

Prices

Flat white £4.20, espresso £3.60, V60 from £5.70 (checked )
