Black Friday coffee machine deals: what is actually cheaper
How to tell a real coffee machine deal from a recycled 'was' price, with today's dated UK prices for the machines we cover so you have something to compare against.

Black Friday coffee machine deals in the UK can be genuinely good, but plenty of “deals” are prices you could have paid in the summer. This guide doesn’t list any sale prices, because the sales haven’t happened yet and we won’t guess at them. Instead, it shows you how to judge a deal when you see one, and gives today’s prices for the machines we cover, all checked on 3 Oct 2026, so you have a real baseline to compare against. We haven’t tested this in person. The advice is based on UK retailer listings and prices checked 3 Oct 2026 and on Which?’s published Black Friday price research, linked below; we haven’t used owner reviews or independent tests here. Read how we compare.
We’ll keep the advice evergreen: it works for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, the January sales or any “limited time” banner.
Are Black Friday coffee machine deals in the UK worth waiting for?
Sometimes, but the evidence says don’t assume it. Which? tracked 175 discounted home and tech products at eight big UK retailers (Amazon, AO, Argos, Boots, Currys, John Lewis, Richer Sounds and Very) for six months either side of the 2024 sales. It found that 83% were cheaper or the same price at least once outside the 15 November to 12 December sales period.
Coffee machines aren’t immune. In its study of the 2023 sales, Which? highlighted a Sage Nespresso Creatista Pro “deal” at John Lewis that had been cheaper on 32 days in the previous six months.
So the honest answer is: if a machine you want drops below the lowest price it’s had for months, that’s a deal. If it simply goes back to a price it’s been at before, it isn’t a reason to rush.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who needs a machine now because the old one has died. Waiting weeks for a possible saving isn’t worth a month of bad coffee.
How to judge a coffee machine deal
1. Read the “was” price and its dates
Currys prints the dates its “was” price applied, right under the price. That small line tells you more than the headline saving. Here’s what the product pages showed on 3 Oct 2026:
- De’Longhi Magnifica Evo (ECAM290.61.SB): Check price at Currys. Its higher price stopped applying in August, so a big “saving” can compare today with a price from weeks ago.
- Nespresso Vertuo Next by Krups (X910N40): Check price at Currys. Its higher price applied from 14 May to 28 Jul 2026.
- Smeg milk frother (MFF11BLUK): Check price at Currys. Its higher price applied from 30 Dec 2024 to 28 Aug 2026, a long run, so a reduction against it means more than most.
Which? found some “was” prices in its research dated back as far as 11 months. A big saving against an old price tells you very little.
2. Check the price history
Which? suggests price-history sites such as PriceRunner, PriceSpy and CamelCamelCamel (for Amazon only). Look at the lowest price over the past six months, not the highest. If the “deal” matches that low, it’s a fair price rather than a special one.
3. Compare the same model code
Coffee machines come in near-identical versions. The Magnifica Evo alone is sold in several codes with different milk systems, and Sage sells some models with different suffixes at different retailers. A cheaper listing can be a cheaper variant. Match the full model code before you compare.
4. Price the whole setup
A pod machine such as the Tassimo Style (check price at Currys) can cost more over a year than a pricier bean-to-cup if you drink several cups a day. An espresso machine without a grinder may need one. Budget for a burr grinder if you buy a machine without one.
5. Check the returns window and warranty
Sale stock is still covered by your normal consumer rights, but returns policies differ between retailers. Read them before you buy, especially for a machine you’ve never seen in person.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who just wants the cheapest machine with no research. In that case, set a budget and pick from the table above.
Today’s prices for machines we cover
The table above lists 13 machines with prices checked on 3 Oct 2026. Treat these as your baseline. If a Black Friday price is higher than or equal to the one shown here, the “deal” isn’t new.
A few things stood out:
- Several machines are already below their old “was” prices. On 3 Oct 2026 the Dedica EC685BK at Currys was below the “was” price Currys showed for most of September.
- Some had no “was” price at all. On 3 Oct 2026 Currys showed no reference price for the Ninja Luxe Café Premier.
- Retailers don’t always agree. Prices for the same model can differ between shops, so always check more than one.
Who it isn’t for: anyone hoping for a ready-made Black Friday shopping list. We’ll only show sale prices once we can check them on the day.
What to look for, by machine type
Bean-to-cup machines
These grind, tamp and brew at the press of a button. They’re the category where big “was” prices are common, so price history matters most. The Magnifica Start and Philips 2200 are the entry points we cover. See our bean-to-cup machines hub, and our Philips 2200 review.
Who it isn’t for: anyone with very little counter space or a tight budget.
Manual espresso machines
Cheaper machines such as the Stilosa and Dedica need a separate grinder or pre-ground coffee. The Dedica EC685 review explains the trade-offs.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants one-touch drinks with no learning curve.
Espresso machines with a built-in grinder
The La Specialista Arte and Barista Express sit here. Compare them in our La Specialista Arte review.
Who it isn’t for: anyone not interested in learning to dial in a grinder.
Pod machines
The machine price is only the start. Pod prices decide the running cost, so a cheap machine with expensive pods may not be a bargain. Our pod machines hub covers the systems.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who drinks a lot of coffee and wants the lowest cost per cup.
Downsides of waiting for the sales
- The price may not move. Which?’s research found most discounted products were the same price or cheaper at some other point in the year, so waiting can simply mean going without.
- Stock and colours can sell out. A sale price on one finish or model code doesn’t mean every version is reduced.
- Our baseline goes out of date. The prices above were checked on 3 Oct 2026. Recheck the retailer’s page before you compare, because prices can change.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who would rather pay today’s price than spend weeks watching for a drop.
