See every pick at a glance

If you’re weighing up the Sage Duo Temp Pro vs Bambino Plus, price won’t settle it: both are £399.95 at Sage UK (checked 3 Oct 2026). The real choice is between a wider machine with a manual steam wand and a dial, and a slim, deeper machine with buttons and a steam wand that can froth milk for you. We haven’t tested this in person. This comparison is based on Sage UK’s published specs and UK retailer listings and prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.

Neither machine grinds beans. Both take a 54mm portafilter, both run at 1600W with a 15-bar pump and PID temperature control, and both come with a milk jug and a dose-trimming tool. So most of what separates them is how you make milk drinks, how you control the shot and how much worktop you can spare.

Sage Duo Temp Pro vs Bambino Plus: the short answer

Choose the Bambino Plus if you mostly drink lattes or flat whites and want help with the milk. Sage UK says its automatic steam wand offers three milk temperatures and three texture levels, and you can still steam by hand if you’d like to learn. It also has one-touch buttons for a single or double shot.

Who it isn’t for: anyone short on depth. Sage UK lists it at 36.2cm deep, more than 10cm deeper than the Duo-Temp Pro.

Choose the Duo-Temp Pro if you want to learn milk steaming by hand and you’d rather control the shot yourself. Sage UK lists manual milk texturing, a dial for operation and manual control over shot volume. It also lists cleaning and drip-tray alerts, plus an auto purge after steaming so the next shot is brewed at the right temperature.

Who it isn’t for: people who want milk drinks at the press of a button, or a narrow kitchen gap. It’s 33.5cm wide on Sage UK’s spec sheet.

Skip both if you don’t have a grinder and don’t want to buy one or use pre-ground coffee. Our Sage Barista Pro vs Bambino Plus comparison looks at a Sage model with a grinder built in.

Heating and heat-up time

Sage UK describes the Duo-Temp Pro’s heating as a 1600W Thermocoil, with an integrated stainless steel water path and PID temperature control. Its product page doesn’t give a heat-up time, so we can’t put a number on it.

For the Bambino Plus, Sage UK’s main product copy says it uses a ThermoJet heating system that reaches extraction temperature in 3 seconds. Sage also claims ThermoJet uses up to 32% less energy a year than a Thermoblock system, based on its own testing. However, the technical specifications on the same page list the heating system as “advanced ThermoCoil”, alongside a 3-second heat-up time. We can’t tell you which label is right, so if the heating type matters to you, check with Sage before buying. What both parts of the page agree on is the 3-second heat-up.

Both machines use low-pressure pre-infusion before the main extraction, according to Sage UK. For the Bambino Plus, Sage says the shot is then extracted at 9 bar from a 15-bar pump. Currys lists the same 15-bar pump with 9-bar extraction.

Milk: manual wand or auto milk

This is the biggest practical difference.

The Duo-Temp Pro has a manual steam wand. You hold the jug, judge the texture and stop when the milk is ready. Sage UK’s description talks about steaming milk into microfoam for latte art, but you’re the one doing it. After steaming, the machine purges itself so the next shot starts at the right temperature.

The Bambino Plus has what Sage calls Auto MilQ. You set the jug under the wand, choose one of three temperatures and one of three texture levels, and the wand does the work. If you’d like more control, Sage says you can texture milk by hand instead. Sage UK also lists hot water through the steam wand.

If you’ve never steamed milk before, the Bambino Plus asks less of you. If you enjoy learning a skill and mainly want a machine to practise on, the Duo-Temp Pro gives you the manual wand without paying for automation you won’t use. Our Bambino vs Bambino Plus comparison covers how the Bambino Plus differs from the standard Bambino, so we won’t repeat that here.

Controls and the shot

The Duo-Temp Pro uses a dial. Sage UK lists manual control over shot volume, so you start and stop the shot yourself. It also lists an integrated, removable magnetic tamper.

The Bambino Plus has a simple button panel: one cup, two cup and steam. Sage UK lists volumetric control for single and double shots, so the machine stops the shot for you. It comes with a separate 54mm tamper, and Sage UK gives an 18g dose of ground coffee.

Both come with single-wall and dual-wall filter baskets in one-cup and two-cup sizes.

Size, tank and what’s in the box

Here’s how Sage UK lists the two (width x depth x height):

  • Duo-Temp Pro: 33.5 x 25.6 x 31.8cm, brushed stainless steel, 1.8-litre tank.
  • Bambino Plus: 19.4 x 36.2 x 30.4cm, stainless steel, 1.9-litre tank (Currys also lists 1.9 litres).

That makes the Bambino Plus 14.1cm narrower but 10.6cm deeper, and 1.4cm lower. Measure your worktop depth as well as the gap between other appliances.

In the box, Sage UK lists for the Duo-Temp Pro: the 54mm portafilter, the integrated tamper, the Razor dose-trimming tool, four filter baskets, a stainless steel milk jug, an Allen key, and a water filter holder and filter.

For the Bambino Plus, it lists: the 54mm portafilter, a 54mm tamper, the Razor precision dosing tool, a Claro Swiss water filter, a 480ml stainless steel milk jug, four filter baskets, a cleaning tool and a cleaning disc.

Both are covered by Sage’s two-year repair, replace or refund guarantee, according to Sage UK.

Who should buy which?

  • You want milky drinks with the least effort: the Bambino Plus, for its automatic wand and shot buttons.
  • You want to learn to steam milk by hand: the Duo-Temp Pro, which is built around a manual wand. The Bambino Plus can be steamed by hand too, so it covers both if you’re unsure.
  • You mostly drink espresso or americanos: milk features matter less, so choose on size and controls. The Duo-Temp Pro’s dial suits people who like to stop the shot themselves, and the Bambino Plus’s buttons suit people who don’t.
  • Your kitchen is narrow: the Bambino Plus, at 19.4cm wide.
  • Your worktop is shallow: the Duo-Temp Pro, at 25.6cm deep.

Downsides of both

  • No heat-up time for the Duo-Temp Pro. Sage UK doesn’t publish one on the page we checked.
  • Limited retailer choice for the Duo-Temp Pro. We only found it at Sage UK.
  • Currys stock is patchy for the Bambino Plus. One finish was out of stock and the other was collection only on 3 Oct 2026.
