See every pick at a glance

Choosing between the Sage Oracle Jet vs Barista Touch Impress comes down to how much of the espresso routine you want the machine to do. Both grind beans, guide you on a touchscreen and froth milk hands-free. The Oracle Jet also doses and tamps for you, while the Barista Touch Impress gives you an assisted tamping lever. At Currys the Oracle Jet was £1,529.99 and the Barista Touch Impress £999.99, both checked 3 Oct 2026. We haven’t tested this in person. This comparison is based on Sage UK’s product pages, Currys’ listings and UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.

Sage Oracle Jet vs Barista Touch Impress: the short answer

Choose the Oracle Jet if you want the least involved routine. Sage UK says it grinds, doses and tamps automatically into a 58mm portafilter, and it adds a heated group head you can adjust by one degree at a time.

Choose the Barista Touch Impress if you’re happy to pull a lever to tamp and want to save £530 at Currys (checked 3 Oct 2026). Its Impress Puck System doses, applies 10kg of assisted tamping pressure and corrects the next dose for you.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants coffee at one button press with no portafilter. Both are espresso machines you still handle, not push-button bean-to-cups.

Dosing and tamping

This is the main difference.

  • Oracle Jet: Sage UK describes “auto grind, dose & tamp”. You lock in the portafilter, and the machine fills and tamps it.
  • Barista Touch Impress: the Impress Puck System uses intelligent dosing and an assisted 10kg tamping lever, finished with a 7° twist. It then adjusts the next dose automatically if the puck wasn’t right. Sage says this “simplifies the steps” rather than removing them.

Both have Barista Guidance on screen. On the Oracle Jet, Sage UK says it detects an over- or under-extracted shot and prompts you to change the grind.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who enjoys tamping by hand. Neither machine leaves it fully to you.

Grinder, portafilter and heating

  • Grinder: both use Baratza European Precision Burrs. The Oracle Jet has 45 grind settings and the Barista Touch Impress 30.
  • Portafilter: 58mm on the Oracle Jet and 54mm on the Barista Touch Impress, per Sage UK.
  • Heating: both use Sage’s ThermoJet system. Sage UK says the Barista Touch Impress reaches extraction temperature in 3 seconds. The Oracle Jet adds a ThermoJet heated group head, adjustable in steps of one degree.
  • Cold drinks: both have Cold Brew and Cold Espresso presets. Sage UK says cold brew takes under 3 minutes on the Barista Touch Impress.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who already owns 58mm accessories. They won’t fit the Barista Touch Impress’s 54mm portafilter.

Milk, drinks and screen

Both have Sage’s Auto MilQ hands-free steam wand with settings for alternative milks. Sage UK lists dairy, almond, oat and soy for the Barista Touch Impress, with milk temperatures from 40°C to 75°C. Both come with a 480ml stainless steel milk jug.

Each lists 14 presets, from flat white to espresso martini. The Oracle Jet adds a “20+ customisable drinks menu”, while Sage UK says you can create, save and name up to six drinks on the Barista Touch Impress.

Currys lists Wi-Fi for both machines, but the Sage UK pages we checked don’t mention it, so check with Sage if software updates matter to you.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants milk drinks with no wand at all. Both still use a jug.
