The best matcha for lattes in the UK: pure powders vs ready mixes
Pure matcha or a sweetened latte mix? We compare what's actually in the UK's easy-to-find options, how much matcha each drink gets, and what a latte costs, from PerfectTed to Kenco and Lipton.

Looking for the best matcha powder for lattes UK shops sell? The first thing to settle is what’s in the tub or sachet. Some products are pure matcha that you whisk and pour over milk. Others are latte mixes where matcha is a small part of a sweetened powder. This guide compares both on the label, the grams of matcha in each drink and the cost per cup. We haven’t tested this in person. Our basis is PerfectTed’s UK shop and Morrisons’ listings, including their ingredients lists, all checked 3 Oct 2026, with no owner feedback, because we couldn’t link any. Read how we compare.

Best matcha powder for lattes UK: the short answer
Choose PerfectTed Ceremonial Grade Matcha (30g) for a latte where you control the milk and the sweetness. The ingredients list is 100% matcha, and it’s £10.50 at PerfectTed, checked 3 Oct 2026. At PerfectTed’s 2g serving, that’s about 70p of matcha a latte.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who doesn’t want to whisk. You’ll need a whisk or a frother to mix it smoothly.
Choose PerfectTed Vanilla Matcha Powder for a sweet, flavoured latte that’s still mostly made with milk you choose. PerfectTed lists coconut sugar first and matcha at 30%. It’s £10.50 for 75g at PerfectTed, checked 3 Oct 2026.
Who it isn’t for: anyone avoiding added sugar. Sugar is the main ingredient.
Choose Lipton Matcha Latte for a just-add-water drink with no added sugar claimed on the pack. It’s £5.00 for 10 sachets at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026 (prices can change).
Who it isn’t for: anyone wanting a strong matcha flavour. Matcha is 6.2% of the powder.
Choose Kenco Vanilla Matcha for the cheapest sweet matcha drink on a supermarket shelf. It’s £2.50 for 8 sachets at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026 (prices can change).
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants mostly matcha. It’s 3% matcha, with sugar listed first.
Pure matcha or a latte mix: read the ingredients
The word “matcha” on the front of the pack tells you very little. The ingredients list on the back tells you most of what you need. Here’s what the labels we read on 3 Oct 2026 say:
- PerfectTed Ceremonial Grade Matcha: “100% ceremonial grade matcha powder”, according to PerfectTed. Nothing else in it.
- PerfectTed Vanilla Matcha Powder: coconut sugar, ceremonial grade matcha (30%) and natural flavourings.
- Lipton Matcha Latte: instant oat powder (93.5%), matcha (6.2%) and plant extracts including stevia leaf. Lipton says it has no added sugar.
- Kenco Vanilla Matcha: sugar, skimmed milk powder (21%), glucose syrup, maltodextrin, palm kernel oil, then matcha (3%), with thickeners, stabilisers and flavourings after it.
So a latte mix often already contains milk powder, oat powder or sugar. That’s why Kenco and Lipton are made with water, while the pure and flavoured PerfectTed powders are meant for real milk.
Who it isn’t for: anyone with a milk allergy choosing Kenco. Its ingredients include skimmed milk powder and milk proteins.
How much matcha is in each drink
Using each brand’s own serving size, here’s the matcha you get per drink. The sums are ours:
- PerfectTed pure, 30g: PerfectTed suggests 2g per drink, so 2g of matcha.
- PerfectTed sachets: each stick holds 1.5g, according to the Morrisons listing.
- PerfectTed Vanilla: PerfectTed gives a serving of 1 tsp (5g). At 30% matcha, 5g × 0.30 = 1.5g of matcha.
- Lipton Matcha Latte: each stick is 11.2g. At 6.2%, 11.2g × 0.062 = about 0.69g of matcha.
- Kenco Vanilla Matcha: each sachet is 18.2g. At 3%, 18.2g × 0.03 = about 0.55g of matcha.
The pure powder puts roughly three to four times as much matcha in the cup as the instant mixes.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who prefers a subtle green tea note. The mixes may suit you better.
What a matcha latte costs per drink
Before milk, using the prices checked 3 Oct 2026:
- PerfectTed pure, 30g at £10.50 (PerfectTed): 30g ÷ 2g = 15 drinks, so £10.50 ÷ 15 = 70p each. The 3 x 30g pack at £23.99 makes 45 drinks, so about 53p each.
- PerfectTed sachets, 7 x 1.5g at £5.50 (Morrisons, prices can change): £5.50 ÷ 7 = about 79p each.
- PerfectTed Vanilla, 75g at £10.50 (PerfectTed): 75g ÷ 5g = 15 drinks, so 70p each.
- Lipton Matcha Latte, 10 sticks at £5.00 (Morrisons, prices can change): 50p each.
- Kenco Vanilla Matcha, 8 sachets at £2.50 (Morrisons, prices can change): about 31p each.
Kenco is the cheapest per drink, but per gram of matcha it’s not. 31.25p ÷ 0.55g is about 57p per gram of matcha, against 35p per gram for PerfectTed’s 30g pouch (£10.50 ÷ 30g). The pure powder costs more per cup because it puts more matcha in the cup.
PerfectTed’s site also shows free UK delivery on orders over £34.99.
Who it isn’t for: anyone counting milk in the cost. Add your own milk price to the pure and flavoured powders.
Whisking and frothing basics
PerfectTed’s instructions for its pure powder are to whisk 2g into 60ml of water until frothy, then pour the shot over milk. It says a bamboo whisk, a blender or a hand-held milk frother will all do. For the flavoured powder, it says to whisk or blend a teaspoon straight into 200ml of milk.
The instant mixes are simpler. Lipton says to stir a stick into water at 90°C (150ml for a stronger drink, 175ml for a milder one), and suggests swapping half the water for milk. Kenco says to stir a sachet into 200ml of hot, not boiling, water, or into milk.
If you’re buying kit, our matcha whisk sets guide covers bamboo whisks, and our milk frothers guide covers electric options that also heat milk.
Who it isn’t for: anyone without a whisk or frother who wants a pure-powder latte. A spoon leaves lumps.
Things to know before you buy
- “Ceremonial grade” is the brand’s own label. The pages we read don’t say who sets the grade, so compare ingredients, origin and price rather than the word on the front.
- Sweetened powders are mostly sugar. PerfectTed Vanilla and Kenco both list sugar first.
- Check the serving size. It changes the cost per drink more than the pack price does.
- Teapigs and Holland & Barrett: Teapigs’ site didn’t show us any matcha results, and we didn’t check Holland & Barrett, so neither is priced here.
- Prices move. The supermarket prices here can change, and PerfectTed sells in several pack sizes.
FAQ
Is ceremonial matcha better for lattes? Not necessarily. Milk and sweetener change the drink a lot, so the grade label matters less than how much matcha goes in. PerfectTed sells its ceremonial-labelled powder for both lattes and straight matcha.
How much matcha should you use in a latte? PerfectTed suggests 2g of its pure powder whisked into 60ml of water, then poured over milk.
Which matcha latte mix has the most matcha? Of the ones we checked, PerfectTed Vanilla at 30%, then Lipton at 6.2% and Kenco at 3%, by their ingredients lists.
Do you need a whisk for matcha lattes? For pure powder, yes, or a frother or blender. Instant mixes like Lipton and Kenco are made to stir in.
