The Philips 5400 LatteGo is £619.99 and the 5500 LatteGo £669.99 at Currys (checked 3 Oct 2026). The 5500 adds iced drinks and a longer menu. Here's whether that's worth £50.

The Philips 5400 vs 5500 question is a narrow one: these are two of Philips’ upper-range LatteGo bean-to-cup machines, and on Philips UK’s pages they share the grinder, tank, bean container and milk system. The Series 5400 EP5446/70 is £619.99 and the Series 5500 EP5546/70 is £669.99, both in stock at Currys and the same price at Philips UK (checked 3 Oct 2026). The main thing the extra £50 buys is iced coffee and a longer menu. We haven’t tested this in person. Our verdict is based on Philips UK’s specs, Currys’ listings, the Guardian’s bean-to-cup roundup (April 2026), which included the LatteGo 5500, and UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.

Milk, noise and maintenance
Both use LatteGo with a 0.26-litre milk container (Philips UK for the 5400, 260ml from Currys for the 5500). Philips says LatteGo has two parts and no tubes, and can go in the dishwasher.
The Guardian found the 5500’s LatteGo simple to use but said it made a coarse, bubbly froth, and that the machine doesn’t prompt you to attach the frother before a milk drink.
Philips UK lists SilentBrew on both. On the 5500 it says this makes it 40% quieter than earlier models, with Quiet Mark certification. The Guardian found the 5500’s grinding the quietest in its roundup.
Both take an AquaClean filter, which Philips says means no descaling for up to 5,000 cups if you change it when prompted.
Who it isn’t for: latte art fans. LatteGo is built for ease, not silky microfoam.
