Twinings vs Yorkshire Tea: the short answer
Choose Yorkshire Tea if you drink several mugs a day with milk and want the best price per bag in big boxes. It comes in more pack sizes, from 40 up to 1,040 bags according to Yorkshire Tea, and the loose leaf is the cheaper of the two per 100g.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who likes a quick dunk. Yorkshire Tea recommends four to five minutes.
Choose Twinings English Breakfast if you want a lighter, quicker cup or a wider choice of formats, including string-and-tag envelopes. The Morrisons listing for Twinings Breakfast Tea suggests two to three minutes.
Who it isn’t for: anyone buying in bulk on a tight budget. On the big-box sizes we saw, Yorkshire Tea was cheaper per bag.
Blend and origins
Yorkshire Tea says its Original is a blend of 10 to 20 black teas, with African teas for liveliness and Indian teas for strength. It also says the blend was originally created for Yorkshire’s water. Taylors of Harrogate has been blending tea in North Yorkshire since 1886, according to the brand, and every Yorkshire Tea product is Rainforest Alliance Certified.
If you want something closer to a premium breakfast blend, Yorkshire Gold uses tea from Kenya, Rwanda and Assam only, with more Assam than the Original, according to the brand. It was £4.30 for 80 bags at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026.
Twinings says its English Breakfast uses full-bodied Assam picked in the summer months, fresh African teas and only high-grown Ceylon. The 80-bag Twinings Breakfast Tea sold at Morrisons is described on its listing as an English breakfast blend of Assam and Kenyan teas.
Who it isn’t for: anyone wanting a single-origin tea. Both are blends designed to taste the same box after box.
Brewing
- Yorkshire Tea: freshly boiled water, four to five minutes, a single gentle squeeze of the bag, then milk, according to the brand’s own guide.
- Twinings: the Morrisons listing for Twinings Breakfast Tea says two to three minutes in freshly boiled water.
So if you follow the packs, a Yorkshire Tea brew takes about twice as long.
If you live in a hard water area, Yorkshire Tea also makes a version for hard water. We cover it in our guide to the best tea for hard water.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants to leave the bag in. Yorkshire Tea says the tea can taste stewed if you do.

Neither says its standard bags are plastic-free. For how another brand handles this, see are Clipper tea bags plastic-free?

- Pack sizes don’t line up. Twinings sells 120 and 300; Yorkshire Tea sells 160 and 240, so like-for-like is hard.
