Best glass kettle UK: clear kettles compared for UK kitchens

Glass kettles sold in the UK compared on body material, capacity, filters and temperature control, with Currys and maker prices checked 3 Oct 2026.

The best glass kettle for a UK kitchen depends on what you want from the glass: a kettle that looks good on the worktop, one that lets you see exactly how much water you’re boiling, or one with as little plastic as possible. We haven’t tested this in person. This guide is based on Currys’ product listings, the makers’ own pages at Russell Hobbs UK, Morphy Richards UK and Tefal UK, and prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.

Quick answer: for most kitchens, the Russell Hobbs Illuminating 21600-10 (£61.99, 1.7 litres) is our pick among the glass kettles we priced at Currys on 3 Oct 2026. Get the Tefal Selection KO760DG0 (£59.99) for five temperature settings, the Russell Hobbs Brita Purity 20760-10 (£46.99, 1 litre) for a small glass kettle with a Brita filter, or the Morphy Richards Glass 108004 (£39.99, 1.7 litres) on a budget.

Best glass kettle UK: the short answer

Get the Russell Hobbs Illuminating 21600-10 if you want a full-size glass kettle from a mainstream brand. It was £61.99 at both Currys and Russell Hobbs UK. Russell Hobbs describes a glass body with a brushed stainless steel finish, and a blue light while it boils.

Who it isn’t for: anyone on a tight budget. Several glass kettles below cost less.

Get the Morphy Richards Lantern 108002 if you want the clearest statement on materials. Currys lists borosilicate glass with a stainless steel base, and it was £57.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026.

Who it isn’t for: big households. Its listed capacity is 1.5 litres, smaller than most here.

Get the Tefal Selection KO760DG0 if you drink green tea or brew coffee below boiling. It was £59.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026. Tefal lists five temperatures: 70, 80, 90, 95 and 100°C.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants the quickest boil. Tefal lists 1,850–2,200W, lower than the 3,000W kettles here.

What a glass kettle costs

The glass kettles we checked at Currys ranged from £29.99 (Daewoo SDA2102) to £99.99 (Russell Hobbs Calm 27450), checked 3 Oct 2026. Our picks sit between £39.99 and £61.99. Maker prices were sometimes higher than Currys: the Morphy Richards Lantern was £69.99 at Morphy Richards UK, and the Tefal Selection was £69.99 and out of stock at Tefal’s UK shop.

Who it isn’t for: anyone hoping a glass kettle will cost the same as a basic plastic one. The cheapest glass models had fewer features, such as no limescale filter.

Glass kettle pros and cons

Visible water and scale. You can see the water level from any side, which makes it easier to boil only what you need. You’ll also see limescale as it builds up, which tells you when to descale.

Weight. Glass isn’t always heavier. Currys lists the Morphy Richards Glass 108004 at 0.7kg, while the Tefal Selection is listed at 1.4kg.

Plastic contact. None of the listings we read describes a kettle as plastic-free, and they don’t say which parts touch the water. Morphy Richards mentions a chrome lid on its 1.7-litre glass kettle, and Currys lists the Lantern with a stainless steel base. If you want to avoid plastic touching the water, check the maker’s manual or ask the maker before buying.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a completely plastic-free kettle. A stovetop kettle is a better fit.

The picks

Russell Hobbs Illuminating 21600-10: £61.99 at Currys and Russell Hobbs UK. Russell Hobbs UK lists 1.7 litres, and the Russell Hobbs Ireland page for the same model lists a concealed element, a removable washable filter and cord storage. It claims you can use up to 66% less energy by boiling one cup (235ml) instead of a litre. Currys lists 3,000W, a push-button lid and a 3-year guarantee (third year by registration).

Who it isn’t for: anyone who doesn’t want lights. The blue glow during boiling is part of the design.

Morphy Richards Lantern 108002: £57.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026, £69.99 at Morphy Richards UK. Morphy Richards describes borosilicate glass, a stainless steel base with a concealed element, a limescale filter and boil-dry protection. Its page lists 1.5 litres, enough for up to six cups by its own count, and 3kW. It’s also sold in a smoked grey version (108003), at £69.99 at Morphy Richards UK.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a plain, clear look. The amber and smoked glass are tinted.

Tefal Selection KO760DG0: £59.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026. Tefal lists a glass body, a concealed element and five temperature settings. The light changes colour to show the temperature, and it has a keep-warm option. Currys lists a removable anti-limescale filter.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a long guarantee in writing. Tefal’s shop advertises 15-year repairability, while Currys lists a 15-year guarantee, so check which applies.

Russell Hobbs Brita Purity 20760-10: £46.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026. It was also £46.99 at Russell Hobbs UK, checked 3 Oct 2026. Currys lists a glass body, a Brita Maxtra Pro Limescale Expert cartridge in the box and a 1-litre capacity.

Morphy Richards Glass 108004: £39.99 at Currys, £49.99 at Morphy Richards UK, checked 3 Oct 2026. Currys lists 1.7 litres, 3,000W, a water filter and a 3-year guarantee when you register. Morphy Richards mentions a chrome lid and hidden cord storage.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants temperature control or a stainless steel base.

Downsides

  • Glass shows scale and marks. In hard water areas you’ll see deposits quickly.
  • Spec gaps. Currys lists the Russell Hobbs Classic 26080 (£38.99) as not cordless and without boil-dry protection, despite also listing a 360° base. Because of this we left it off our picks.
  • Listing conflicts. Morphy Richards’ page for the Glass 108004 mentions both a red and a blue indicator light. For the Tefal Selection, Currys says up to six cups and Tefal says up to eight.

Alternatives

If you want a cheap glass kettle, the Logik L17GK22 was £34.99 at Currys. Currys lists glass and stainless steel, 1.7 litres and a 1-year guarantee. The Daewoo SDA2102 was £29.99 at Currys, but Currys lists it with no anti-limescale filter.

Cleaning a glass kettle

  • Descale with the maker’s recommended method. Russell Hobbs sells its own descaler.
  • Rinse the removable filter regularly.
  • Empty the kettle after use, so water doesn’t sit and leave marks.
  • Wipe the outside with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads on the glass.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who doesn’t want to descale often. A stainless steel kettle hides scale better.
