The best Nespresso machines in the UK, Vertuo and Original

Which Nespresso to buy: Vertuo or Original first, then six machines from the Vertuo Next to the Lattissima One, with UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026.

The best Nespresso machine in the UK for you depends first on which pod system you pick, and only then on the machine. Nespresso sells two systems that don’t share pods: Vertuo, which covers everything from espresso to a big mug, and Original, which focuses on espresso-sized drinks and takes supermarket pods. Below we explain how to choose, then pick six machines with a dated UK price for each. We haven’t tested this in person. Our picks are based on published specs and UK retailer listings and prices checked on 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.

For everything Nespresso in one place, including pods and recycling, see our Nespresso guide.

Best Nespresso machine UK: choose the system first

Vertuo machines read a barcode on each capsule and set the drink size for you. On the Currys listings we checked, Vertuo cup sizes run from a 40ml espresso up to a 414ml alto on the Vertuo Next, and up to a 545ml carafe on the Vertuo Up. The catch is that Vertuo machines only take Nespresso’s own Vertuo capsules.

Original machines make shorter drinks, mainly espresso and lungo. Their big plus is choice: supermarkets sell Original-compatible pods from brands such as L’OR, Starbucks by Nespresso, Costa and own-label ranges, so you can shop around on price.

Our Vertuo vs Original guide goes into the differences in detail.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who mostly drinks big mugs of coffee and wants supermarket pods. No single Nespresso machine does both, so decide which matters more.

The short answer

  • Cheapest way into Vertuo: Vertuo Next, £69.99 at Currys (checked 3 Oct 2026, prices can change).

  • Most cup sizes: Vertuo Up, £179.99 at Currys (checked 3 Oct 2026, prices can change).
  • For espresso and cheap pods: CitiZ, £174.99 at Currys (checked 3 Oct 2026, prices can change).
  • Smallest Original: Essenza Mini, £119.00 at De’Longhi UK, but out of stock when we checked (3 Oct 2026).
  • For milky drinks: Lattissima One, £259.99 at De’Longhi UK (checked 3 Oct 2026).

Best Vertuo machines

Nespresso Vertuo Next X910N40. The lowest price on any Nespresso machine we found. Currys lists five cup sizes (40ml, 80ml, 150ml, 230ml and 414ml), a 1.1-litre tank and a capsule box in the box, with a two-year guarantee. It’s £69.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026. Currys prices can change. BBC Good Food marks it down for a deep footprint and noise, and Balance Journal puts it in its “avoid” group over reliability complaints. Our Vertuo Next review weighs that up.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who puts reliability above price, or who has a shallow worktop. Currys lists it as 429mm deep.

Nespresso Vertuo Pop XN920440. The compact Vertuo. Currys lists a 0.56-litre tank, four cup sizes (espresso, double espresso, gran lungo and a 230ml mug), 1,500W and a weight of 3.5kg, and says the machine comes on its own, with no pods. It’s £99.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026 (prices can change). The De’Longhi-made black version, the ENV90.B, was £99.00 at De’Longhi UK on the same day. Our Vertuo Pop vs Next comparison helps you choose between the two.

Who it isn’t for: anyone making several mugs a day. A 0.56-litre tank needs frequent refilling, and the listing on Currys tops out at a 230ml mug.

Nespresso Vertuo Up XN9408G0. The pick for the widest range of drinks. Currys lists seven sizes, from a 25ml ristretto to a 355ml XL coffee and a 545ml carafe, a 1.4-litre tank, a descaling reminder, Wi-Fi with Nespresso’s app and temperature options, plus 12 capsules in the box. It’s £179.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026 (prices can change).

Who it isn’t for: anyone on a budget. It costs more than twice as much as the Vertuo Next on the day we checked, and there’s no milk frother.

Best Original machines

Nespresso CitiZ XN741B40. Our pick for espresso drinkers. Currys lists a 19-bar pump, a 1-litre tank, espresso and lungo buttons, a 25-second heat-up and a welcome set of capsules. It’s £174.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026 (prices can change). The Telegraph names it its best Nespresso machine for espresso. Our CitiZ review covers it in full. If you want milk too, De’Longhi UK sells a CitiZ Platinum with an Aeroccino frother (EN330.M) at £269.99, checked 3 Oct 2026.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants big drinks. It makes espresso and lungo only.

Nespresso Essenza Mini EN85.B. The smallest Original machine we looked at. De’Longhi UK lists a 19-bar pump and a Thermoblock heater that only heats the water each drink needs. It’s listed at £119.00 at De’Longhi UK, checked 3 Oct 2026, but the page showed it as out of stock. We couldn’t find it at Currys, and the other UK retailers we checked blocked us.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who needs a machine this week, unless it comes back into stock, or anyone wanting milk drinks.

Nespresso Lattissima One EN510.W. The Original machine for lattes and cappuccinos. De’Longhi UK lists a 1-litre tank, a 0.165-litre milk jug, a 19-bar pump, a used-capsule container that holds 10 and recipes for cappuccino, latte macchiato and espresso macchiato. It’s £259.99 at De’Longhi UK, checked 3 Oct 2026. See our Lattissima One review.

Who it isn’t for: anyone making milk drinks for several people at once. The jug is small.

Pod costs: the part that adds up

On Original machines you can buy supermarket pods. At Morrisons on 3 Oct 2026, a 36-pack of Starbucks by Nespresso House Blend was £9.25 (about 26p a pod), and a 40-pack of L’OR Espresso Lungo Profondo was £10.00 (25p a pod). Morrisons’ own The Best Fairtrade Espresso pods were £3.25 for 10, or about 33p each. See The Best Fairtrade Espresso pods at Morrisons.

For Vertuo, you need Nespresso’s own capsules. Nespresso’s UK site blocked our price checks, so we can’t give you a Vertuo cost per cup, and we won’t guess. Check Nespresso’s current prices before you choose a Vertuo machine.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who only looks at the machine price. At 25p a pod, one coffee a day comes to about £91 a year (our sum), so running costs matter as much as the price on the box.

Downsides

  • Two systems, no overlap. Vertuo pods won’t fit Original machines, and the other way round.
  • Vertuo lock-in. Nespresso’s own capsules only, at prices we couldn’t confirm.
  • Few machines froth milk. Only the Lattissima One and the CitiZ Platinum bundle here have a milk option.
  • Stock and prices move. The Vertuo Next’s Currys price can change, and the Essenza Mini was out of stock.
