Nespresso Vertuo Pop vs Next: which Vertuo should you buy?
The Vertuo Pop is the smaller machine, but on 3 Oct 2026 the Vertuo Next was the cheaper one at Currys. Here's how tank size, cup sizes and price compare.

The Nespresso Vertuo Pop vs Next question used to be simple: the Pop was the small, cheap way into Vertuo and the Next was the bigger step up. On 3 Oct 2026 that flipped at Currys, where the Vertuo Next was priced below the Pop. So the choice now is less about budget and more about size, tank and cup range. We haven’t tested this in person. This comparison is based on the specs Currys lists for each model code and UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.
Nespresso Vertuo Pop vs Next: the short answer
Get the Vertuo Next if you have the worktop space and want the bigger water tank and the widest range of cup sizes. Currys lists a 1.1-litre tank and drink sizes up to a 535ml carafe for the De’Longhi version. At £69.00 at Currys (checked 3 Oct 2026, prices can change), it was also the cheaper of the two on the day we checked.
Who it isn’t for: anyone short on space, or anyone who wants a bright colour. It’s the heavier machine, and the Next colours sold at Currys were the more muted ones.
Get the Vertuo Pop if space matters more than anything and you mostly drink single cups, from espresso up to a large mug. It’s £99.00 at Currys for the De’Longhi black model (checked 3 Oct 2026), and Currys also lists yellow and black-and-pink versions.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who brews several mugs a day or wants a carafe-size serving. The small tank means more refills, and Currys doesn’t list a carafe size for it.
Skip both if you want to use supermarket or third-party pods freely. Vertuo machines are built around Nespresso’s own barcoded Vertuo pods. Our guide to pod machines covers the other systems.
Prices on 3 Oct 2026
Both machines are made for Nespresso by two partners, De’Longhi and Krups, so you’ll see two model codes for each. The machines are sold under the Nespresso name either way, but prices and listed specs differ slightly, so check the code before you buy.

We quote the Next’s regular Currys price; prices can change, so check price at Currys before you buy.
We couldn’t load prices from Nespresso UK, John Lewis, Argos or AO when we checked, so Currys is the only retailer we’re quoting. We also couldn’t confirm a current price for Vertuo pods, so there’s no cost-per-cup figure here.
Water tank and refills
This is the biggest practical difference. Currys lists the Vertuo Next’s tank at 1.1 litres on both the De’Longhi and Krups versions. The Vertuo Pop’s tank is listed at 0.6 litres for the De’Longhi model and 0.56 litres for the Krups one, so roughly half the size.
In everyday terms, a single large mug on the Pop takes a big share of the tank, so you’ll be refilling far more often if more than one person drinks coffee in your house. If it’s just you and one or two cups a day, that may not bother you at all.
Who it isn’t for: the Pop isn’t for households that brew back-to-back mugs or want to fill the tank once and forget it for a few days.
Cup sizes: does the Pop do everything the Next does?
Both machines read the barcode on each Vertuo pod and set the drink size for you, so there’s no programming. The difference is the range Currys lists:
- Vertuo Pop (De’Longhi ENV90.B): ristretto 25ml, espresso 40ml, double espresso 80ml, gran lungo 150ml, mug 230ml and large mug 355ml.
- Vertuo Next (De’Longhi ENV120.GY): the same six sizes plus a 535ml carafe.
The Krups versions are listed slightly differently: Currys gives the Krups Next five sizes up to 414ml and the Krups Pop four sizes up to 230ml. Listings vary between retailers and model codes, so if a carafe or large mug matters to you, check the size list on the exact model you’re buying.
Who it isn’t for: the Next’s extra carafe size isn’t worth paying for if you only ever drink espresso or a single mug, though at today’s prices you aren’t paying extra.
Size, weight and design
Currys lists the Vertuo Pop at 3.5kg and the Vertuo Next at 4kg (De’Longhi) or 4.3kg (Krups). Currys’ dimension figures for the Pop are labelled inconsistently across its two listings, so we haven’t quoted them. For the Next, Currys gives 314 x 142 x 429mm (height x width x depth) for the De’Longhi model, which tells you it’s slim but deep. Measure the depth of your worktop against the machine before ordering either.
The Pop is the more playful-looking machine and comes in brighter colours at Currys, including yellow and a black-and-pink version. The Next looks plainer. Both have an adjustable cup stand and a removable drip tray, according to Currys.
Currys lists Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the Nespresso app for the De’Longhi Pop and Next. Most people will just press the button, but the app can handle things like software updates.
Who it isn’t for: neither is a good fit if your worktop is shallow; the Next in particular is listed as deep for its width.
Milk drinks
Neither machine steams or froths milk on its own. If you drink lattes or cappuccinos, you’ll need a separate frother, or one of the Vertuo bundles that Currys sells with an Aeroccino frother. Our guide to the best milk frothers compares standalone options.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants milk drinks at the press of a button would be better off with a pod machine that has a built-in milk system.
Downsides of both
- Pod lock-in. Both use Nespresso’s own Vertuo pods, so you can’t switch to cheaper supermarket capsules made for the Original system.
- Running costs we couldn’t confirm. We couldn’t find current Vertuo pod prices, so check Nespresso UK before you work out what a year of coffee will cost.
- The Next’s price can change. The £69.00 and £69.99 Currys prices (checked 3 Oct 2026) can change.
- The Pop’s small tank. Around 0.6 litres means frequent refills.
- Reliability. Our Vertuo Next review covers a reliability warning from one UK review site; we haven’t found a comparable source for the Pop yet.
