Best stovetop kettle: hob kettles for gas, induction and pour-over
UK stovetop kettles compared on hob compatibility, capacity, whistle and spout, with ProCook, Lakeland, Dunelm and Hario UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026.

The best stovetop kettle in the UK is the one that suits your hob first and your style second. Not every hob kettle works on induction, and a classic whistling kettle is a very different tool from a gooseneck pour-over kettle. We haven’t tested this in person. This guide is based on product listings and prices at ProCook, Lakeland, Dunelm and Hario UK, checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.
Best stovetop kettle UK: the short answer
Get the ProCook Stovetop Kettle 2L if you want a large whistling kettle that works on any common hob. It was £49 at ProCook, which lists induction, gas, electric and ceramic hobs and a 10-year guarantee.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants to use the dishwasher. ProCook lists it as not dishwasher safe.
Get the Living Nostalgia Induction Hob Kettle if you want a whistling kettle on a budget. It was £26 at Dunelm, which says it works on all hobs from gas to induction and has a 10-year guarantee.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who needs 2 litres. Dunelm lists 1,300ml.
Get the Hario V60 Buono 1.2L if you brew pour-over coffee. It was £60 at Hario UK, which describes a precise pour-over spout and a flat-bottomed stainless steel body.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a whistle or a big batch of tea. Hario UK lists an 800ml practical capacity.
What a stovetop kettle costs
Our picks ranged from £26 to £60 on 3 Oct 2026. Lakeland’s MasterClass Farmhouse 2L was £52.99. We also looked at Le Creuset’s Kone, but couldn’t load a current UK price, so we’ve left it out.
Who it isn’t for: anyone comparing on running costs alone. Your hob type and how much water you heat matter more than the kettle’s price.
Whistling or gooseneck?
Whistling kettles have a short spout with a whistle cap that sounds when the water boils. ProCook says its kettle produces a “classic” whistle, and Dunelm describes a flip-up steam whistle on the Living Nostalgia. They suit tea and cafetière coffee, where you just need boiling water.
Gooseneck kettles have a long, thin spout for a slow, controlled pour. Hario UK says the Buono’s low-mounted spout and high handle give you control of the flow rate for V60 brewing. There’s no whistle and no thermometer, so you’re watching the hob.
Who it isn’t for: pour-over brewers who want exact temperatures. A temperature-controlled electric gooseneck is easier.
Induction compatibility
Induction hobs only work with pans that have a magnetic base. Four of our five picks say on their listings that they work on induction:
- ProCook lists induction, gas, electric and ceramic.
- Lakeland says the MasterClass suits all hobs including induction and AGA.
- Dunelm says the La Cafetière kettle suits all hob types including induction.
- Dunelm says the Living Nostalgia works on all hobs, from gas to induction.
Hario UK says the Buono’s flat-bottomed stainless steel body lets you use it on “any kind of heater”, but doesn’t mention induction by name. If you cook on induction, check with the seller before buying.
Who it isn’t for: anyone with an induction hob who doesn’t want to check. Stick to kettles that name induction on the listing.
The picks
ProCook Stovetop Kettle 2L: £49 at ProCook. ProCook lists a polished stainless steel body, an open black Bakelite handle, a snap-shut lid with a lever to lift the spout cover, and a weight of 1,240g. It recommends filling to 1cm below the spout.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants an all-metal handle. The handle is Bakelite.
MasterClass Farmhouse Style 2L: £52.99 at Lakeland. Lakeland describes a stay-cool handle and knob, an encapsulated base for even heating and max-fill markers inside. It’s the only pick that names AGA in its listing.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a whistle confirmed. Lakeland’s description doesn’t mention one.
La Cafetière Stainless Steel Stove Top Kettle: £30 at Dunelm, checked 3 Oct 2026. Dunelm lists a polished stainless steel body with a retro shape, a built-in whistle and dimensions of 22 x 18 x 20.5cm. Dunelm says it should be washed by hand.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who needs a stated capacity. We couldn’t find one on the Dunelm listing.
Living Nostalgia Induction Hob Kettle: £26 at Dunelm. Dunelm lists KitchenCraft as the brand, a cream or grey finish, stainless steel construction, a stay-cool handle and knob and a 10-year guarantee. The capacity is listed as 1,300ml, though the colour options are named “1.4Lt”.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a plain modern look.
Hario V60 Buono Drip Kettle 1.2L: £60 at Hario UK. Hario UK lists a stainless steel body, an easy-grip handle and a flat knob lid, with a 1,200ml full and 800ml practical capacity.
Who it isn’t for: tea drinkers who only need boiling water fast.
Downsides
- No temperature control. You have to judge it yourself, or use a thermometer.
- No boil times. None of the listings gives one. It depends on your hob.
- Handles. Only some listings mention a stay-cool handle and knob.
- Missing details. Two Dunelm listings don’t give a full set of specs, and the Living Nostalgia lists two different capacities.
Alternatives
If you’d rather plug in, our filter coffee machines hub covers batch brewing. For more kit, see accessories, our tea section and our coffee hub.
Care and limescale
- Empty the kettle after each use. Don’t leave water standing.
- Descale with a kettle descaler or a citric acid solution, following the maker’s instructions.
- Dry the outside so polished steel doesn’t spot.
- Don’t heat a stovetop kettle empty.
Who it isn’t for: anyone hoping for zero upkeep. In hard water areas, every kettle scales.
