Philips 3200 vs 5400 LatteGo: entry vs top-tier compared
Philips 3200 vs 5400 LatteGo: drinks, profiles, display and noise from Philips UK's spec tables, plus UK prices and stock checked 3 Oct 2026.

The Philips 3200 vs 5400 decision looks like a big price jump on paper, but on 3 Oct 2026 the two were only £20 apart at Philips UK. The 5400 adds eight more pre-programmed drinks, saved profiles and a TFT display, and it’s the one you can actually buy. We haven’t tested this in person. Our comparison is based on the spec tables on Philips UK’s product pages, Currys’ listing for the 5400, TechRadar’s 5400 review and UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.
Philips 3200 vs 5400: the short answer
Get the Philips 5400 (EP5446/70). It was £619.99 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026 (in stock) and £619.99 at Philips UK, checked 3 Oct 2026. Philips UK lists 12 pre-programmed drinks, four user profiles plus a guest profile, a TFT display and SilentBrew.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who drinks black coffee only. The extra menu is mostly milk drinks.
Skip the Philips 3200 (EP3246/70) unless it comes back in stock well below the 5400. Philips UK listed it at £599.99 but out of stock, and Currys didn’t list it. Its spec table shows four pre-programmed drinks and no profiles.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants flat white or caffè latte at one touch. Philips doesn’t list either among the 3200’s drinks.

Argos blocked our checks and John Lewis’s site didn’t respond, so neither is included.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants to save money by choosing the 3200. At £20 apart, the saving is small even when it’s in stock.
Drinks
- 3200: Philips UK’s spec table lists espresso, coffee, espresso lungo and iced coffee, plus hot water. That’s four pre-programmed drinks, although the page headline says “5 coffee options”. Philips’ feature text also mentions cappuccino and latte via LatteGo.
- 5400: the spec table lists espresso, coffee, americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, flat white, café au lait, coffee latte, caffè crema, ristretto and espresso lungo. It also has a travel mug feature, frothed milk and hot water.
Philips doesn’t list an iced drink on the 5400, so the 3200 is the only one of the two with iced coffee on its spec sheet.
Who it isn’t for: iced coffee drinkers. The 5400 has no listed iced option, while the 3200 does but is out of stock.
Profiles, display and customising
The 3200’s spec table says “Profiles: No”. Philips describes a touch display and a menu with three settings each for strength and quantity.
The 5400 lists four user profiles plus a guest profile, so a visitor can adjust a drink without overwriting yours. It also lists a TFT display and an extra shot function.
Who it isn’t for: single-person households. If nobody else uses the machine, the 5400’s profiles matter less.
Shared hardware
Philips UK’s spec tables match on these:
- Grinder: ceramic, 12 settings. Philips says it’s rated for at least 20,000 cups.
- Capacity: a 275g bean container and a 1.8-litre tank.
- Milk: LatteGo, 0.26 litres.
- Performance: 15 bar and 1,500W.
- Size and weight: 246mm wide and 8kg. The two pages list length and height the other way round, but both give 433mm and 371–372mm.
- Water temperature: Philips says its Aroma Extract system keeps brewing water between 90°C and 98°C.
- Descaling: both take an AquaClean filter. Philips says that if you change it when prompted, you won’t need to descale for up to 5,000 cups.
Currys lists the 5400 at 8.1kg and says it also takes ground coffee. Philips’ 3200 table lists fresh beans only.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a bigger tank or hopper by moving up. On Philips’ figures, the 5400 is no bigger.
Noise and cleaning
Philips lists SilentBrew among the 5400’s technologies, but not on the 3200. The 3200’s page does say its aroma seal reduces grinder noise. For an independent view on the 5400, TechRadar’s review measured up to 79dBA while grinding.
Philips says LatteGo cleans in as little as 15 seconds on the 3200 page and 10 seconds on the 5400 page. Both pages describe two parts and no tubes, a removable brew group and dishwasher-safe parts.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who needs a quiet grind first thing in the morning. TechRadar’s 79dBA reading suggests checking noise before you buy.
Odd details on Philips’ pages
On 3 Oct 2026 the 5400 page’s intro text was in Czech, and one feature line referred to a “LatteGo 4300”. The 3200 page mentioned the “EP4346/70” in its dishwasher section. We’ve relied on each page’s spec table rather than those lines.
Downsides
- 3200: out of stock and not at Currys. It has four listed drinks, no profiles and no SilentBrew listed.
- 5400: no iced drinks listed, and TechRadar measured a loud grind.
- Both: a 275g hopper and 1.8-litre tank.
Alternatives
- Philips 2200 EP2220/10: £279 at John Lewis, checked 3 Oct 2026, prices can change. It has a classic steam wand rather than LatteGo. See our Philips 2200 review.
