Melitta Purista vs Avanza: black coffee or milk drinks?
The Purista and Avanza are both 20cm-wide Melitta bean-to-cup machines. The difference is milk, tank and bean capacity, and on 3 Oct 2026 only one was in stock.

The Melitta Purista vs Avanza choice is simpler than it looks. Both are slim Melitta bean-to-cup machines, 20cm wide on Melitta UK’s figures, with the same strength, grind and temperature settings. The Avanza adds a milk frother, a bigger tank and a bigger bean container. The Purista is for black coffee only. We haven’t tested this in person. This comparison is based on Melitta UK’s product pages, Currys’ listings and UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.
Melitta Purista vs Avanza: the short answer
Choose the Purista if you drink espresso, café crème or long black coffee and don’t want to pay for milk you won’t use. It was £299 for the silver F230-101 at Currys, in stock, checked 3 Oct 2026.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a cappuccino. Melitta UK lists no milk foam system on the Purista.
Choose the Avanza if you want milk drinks from a machine just as narrow. Melitta UK listed the Avanza F270-100 as out of stock on 3 Oct 2026, so check price at Melitta UK.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who needs a machine now. We couldn’t find the Avanza in stock at Melitta UK or listed at Currys on 3 Oct 2026.

Who it isn’t for: anyone comparing on Melitta UK prices alone. The silver Purista was £100.99 cheaper at Currys than at Melitta UK, both checked 3 Oct 2026.
Milk: the big difference
The Avanza has what Melitta calls the Easy Cappuccinatore. You connect it to your milk, and it froths the milk for you; Melitta UK says you then dispense the coffee and combine the two to suit the drink. Its one-touch buttons are café crème and espresso, so a cappuccino or latte macchiato takes a couple of steps rather than one press.
The Purista has no milk system at all, per Melitta UK. If you already own a separate frother, that may not matter.
Melitta UK lists no automatic steam cleaning of the milk parts on the Avanza, so expect to rinse the milk parts yourself.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants true one-touch lattes. That’s what the Melitta Latticia OT adds, as our Latticia OT review explains.
Size, tank and beans
| Purista | Avanza | |
|---|---|---|
| Width (Melitta UK) | 20cm | 20cm |
| Water tank (Melitta UK) | 1.2 litres | 1.5 litres |
| Bean container (Melitta UK) | 125g | 250g |
| Weight (Melitta UK) | 7.2kg | 7.5kg |
| Hot water | No | Yes |
Melitta UK gives the Purista as 334mm high, 200mm wide and 459mm deep. Currys gives the same dimensions but lists a 200g bean container and 9kg, which don’t match Melitta’s figures, so we’ve used the maker’s. Melitta UK gives the Avanza’s width as 20cm and its height-adjustable outlet as 135mm, which takes tall glasses.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants hot water for tea from the Purista. Melitta UK lists none, while the Avanza has it.
What they share
On Melitta UK’s spec lists, both machines have:
- A steel conical grinder that Melitta describes as quiet, with five grind settings.
- Three strength settings and three brewing temperatures (85°C, 90°C and 95°C).
- Water quantity from 25ml to 220ml, set steplessly.
- Two coffee spouts for two cups at once; Melitta calls this Double Cup.
- A removable brewing unit and an automatic cleaning and descaling programme, run from a service button.
- 1450W and support from Melitta’s Companion App, which gives cleaning and descaling guidance rather than remote control.
The Purista also has one “My Coffee” profile to save a favourite drink, which Melitta UK doesn’t list on the Avanza. Currys lists 15 bar for the Purista and a two-year manufacturer’s guarantee.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a long drinks menu or a touchscreen. Both use simple buttons and an LED symbol display.
Downsides
- Avanza stock. It was out of stock at Melitta UK and not listed at Currys on 3 Oct 2026.
- Small Purista tank. 1.2 litres, and a 125g bean container on Melitta UK’s figures.
- No one-touch milk on either machine.
- Conflicting specs between Melitta UK and Currys for the Purista’s bean container and weight.
