Morrisons coffee beans: own-label and branded picks compared
What Morrisons sells in whole beans, from its own 1kg Espresso Blend and The Best single origins to Lavazza, Costa, Taylors and smaller brands, with price per kg worked out.

Morrisons coffee beans come in three groups on its groceries site: the plain Morrisons own-label bags, the pricier Morrisons The Best single origins, and a wide branded shelf with Lavazza, Costa, Taylors, Leon and Ueshima. This page sets out what we found there on 3 Oct 2026, what each bag costs per kilo, and who each one suits. We haven’t tested this in person. Our basis is Morrisons’ own search results and product listings, checked 3 Oct 2026, with no owner feedback, because we couldn’t link any. Read how we compare.
All prices below are from Morrisons’ groceries site, checked 3 Oct 2026, and prices can change.
Morrisons coffee beans: the short answer
Buy the Espresso Blend 1kg if you want the cheapest kilo. It’s £14.25 at Morrisons, and Morrisons gives it a strength of 5 and says it suits all espresso coffee makers.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who gets through less than a bag a month. A kilo takes a while to finish once opened.
Choose a The Best single origin if you want Fairtrade or 100% arabica beans from one named country. Each 227g bag is £4.30 at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026.
Who it isn’t for: bean-to-cup owners who refill the hopper every few days. The small bags add up.
Choose Lavazza Qualità Rossa if you want the cheapest branded 1kg bag we found. Check price at Morrisons.
Who it isn’t for: anyone wanting the cheapest kilo overall. The own-label Espresso Blend is £3.75 less.
The Morrisons own-label beans
Morrisons’ basic range is short: three bags of beans on 3 Oct 2026.
- Espresso Blend Roasted Coffee Beans, 1kg, £14.25. Morrisons describes it as smooth, dark and creamy, gives it strength 5 (“strong”) and lists Rainforest Alliance certification. It carries Morrisons’ “Unbeatable Price” tag, which Morrisons says means it won’t be beaten on price by Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda, Aldi or Lidl on the products in that scheme. See Espresso Blend 1kg at Morrisons
- Italian Coffee Beans, 227g, £3.60. That’s £3.60 ÷ 0.227 = £15.86 per kg. Morrisons calls it sweet, full bodied and medium strong, for any coffee maker.
- Espresso Coffee Bean, 227g, £3.60. Also £15.86 per kg. We didn’t open its full listing, so we’ve only got the name and price.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who cares where the beans are grown. The basic listings don’t name origins.
Morrisons The Best: four single origins
Morrisons’ premium line comes in 227g bags at £4.30 each, which is £18.94 per kg.
- The Best Colombian. Fairtrade, 100% arabica, strength 3, smooth medium roast. Morrisons describes chocolate and caramel notes and says it’s grown on small farms on Colombia’s Andean slopes.
- The Best Fair Trade Brazilian. Fairtrade, 100% arabica from Minas Gerais, strength 4, rich medium roast. Morrisons lists praline and marzipan notes.
- The Best Guatemalan Espresso. 100% arabica from central Guatemala’s mountain regions, strength 4, described as medium to strong with smoke and spice. Its listing didn’t show a Fairtrade mark.
- The Best Colombian Decaf. Same £4.30 price. We read it on the search page only, so we haven’t got its strength or decaf method.
Who it isn’t for: anyone wanting a darker roast than medium. Every The Best listing we opened says medium.
The branded beans on Morrisons’ shelf
Lavazza has the biggest presence:
- Qualità Rossa 1kg: Check price at Morrisons

- Espresso Italiano Classico 1kg: £23.50 at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026
- Espresso Barista Intenso 500g: £14.50 at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026, so £29.00 per kg

- Oro 250g: £6.50 at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026, so £26.00 per kg. Our Qualità Oro review covers it.
Costa: the Intense Amazonian Blend 1kg is £19.95, and it’s listed as new. The 200g Mocha Italia and Intensely Dark Amazonian bags are £3.50 each, which is £17.50 per kg. So on 3 Oct 2026, two small Costa bags worked out cheaper per kilo than the big one. More on the range in our Costa coffee beans guide.
Taylors of Harrogate: Rich Italian, Lazy Sunday, Hot Lava Java and Decaffe come in 200g bags at £5.75 at Morrisons (£28.75 per kg), checked 3 Oct 2026. Who it isn’t for: anyone who assumes the bigger bag is always cheaper per kilo. Check Morrisons’ per kg figure on the shelf label.
Which Morrisons beans suit your brewer
Morrisons’ own listings give brewing hints:
- Espresso machine: the Espresso Blend 1kg is pitched at all espresso coffee makers, and The Best Guatemalan is sold as an espresso bean.
- Bean-to-cup: the 1kg bags make most sense if you refill the hopper often: Espresso Blend, Lavazza Rossa or Crema e Gusto, or Costa’s 1kg. Our beans for bean-to-cup guide goes further.
- Cafetière or filter: The Best listings suggest a rounded dessert spoon of beans per cup, then a grind to suit your method. The Guatemalan listing says to grind medium coarse for a plunger.
The bean listings we read assume you’ll grind at home. We didn’t see an in-store grinding service mentioned on them, so check in your local store.
Who it isn’t for: anyone without a grinder. Morrisons also sells ground coffee, but this page covers only beans.
Multibuys
Some bean listings had multibuys on 3 Oct 2026. They change often, so check price at Morrisons on the day.
Downsides
- Small premium bags. The Best only comes in 227g.
- No roast dates. The listings point to a best-before date on the pack, and none mentions a roast date.
- Thin details on some bags. The basic Espresso bean and The Best Decaf had no full details in what we read.
- A confusing brew note. The Best Colombian and Brazilian listings put “grind beans finely” next to plunging, which doesn’t match the Guatemalan listing’s medium-coarse plunger advice.
- Prices change. Check price at Morrisons on the day you buy.
For other supermarkets’ own-label beans, see our supermarket ranges page.
From the roaster: Taylors’ Lazy Sunday beans page sums up the blend’s flavour as juicy, sweet and gentle, checked 3 Oct 2026.
