The best decaf Dolce Gusto pods: what's on UK shelves
The decaf Dolce Gusto pods we could find in UK shops on 3 Oct 2026, what 'decaf' really means for caffeine, how to make decaf milky drinks, and recycling.

If you’re looking for the best decaf Dolce Gusto pods, the honest answer is that the choice in UK supermarkets is small. When we checked Morrisons’ online shop on 3 Oct 2026, the only decaf Dolce Gusto box was Nescafé Dolce Gusto Americano Decaffeinato. That’s our pick, and below we explain how to get more out of it, including milky decaf drinks. We haven’t tested this in person. Prices were checked on 3 Oct 2026, and caffeine information comes from the NHS and EFSA only. We don’t give health advice. Read how we compare.
The best decaf Dolce Gusto pods we found
Our pick: Nescafé Dolce Gusto Americano Decaffeinato (16 pods)
£5.00 at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026, for 16 pods and 16 servings, because it’s a one-pod drink. It’s a long black coffee, made the same way as the regular Americano pod. By our arithmetic, that’s about 31p a cup at the single-box price, or about 23p a cup if you use the multibuy with two boxes. That’s the same price per cup as the regular Americano 16-pod box at Morrisons.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a decaf latte or cappuccino from a single box. We didn’t find a ready-made decaf milky Dolce Gusto drink at Morrisons.
Other decaf options
Nescafé’s own Dolce Gusto shop may list other decaf blends, but its website blocked our check on 3 Oct 2026, so we couldn’t confirm which are currently sold in the UK or their prices. Check current price on the Nescafé Dolce Gusto site, and look for “decaffeinato” or “decaf” on the box.
Third-party Dolce Gusto compatible pods exist, such as Costa’s “One Pod” range, but we didn’t find a decaf version at Morrisons. If you use compatible pods, check your machine’s manual first.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants lots of choice. If decaf variety matters most, a Nespresso Original machine has far more compatible decaf capsules. See best decaf coffee pods.
How to make decaf milky drinks with Dolce Gusto
Because the only decaf box we found is black coffee, there are two simple ways to make a milky decaf:
- Add frothed milk. Brew a decaf Americano on a smaller setting if your machine lets you, then add hot frothed milk. A separate milk frother makes this easy. See our best milk frother guide.
- Add warm milk to a full cup. Brew a shorter decaf Americano and top up with steamed or warm milk for a café au lait style drink.
Either way, you control the milk and the strength, and you keep the drink decaf.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a one-button drink. These options take an extra step.
Decaf isn’t caffeine-free
Decaffeination removes most of the caffeine, but not all of it. We haven’t measured the caffeine in any Dolce Gusto pod, and Nescafé’s site wasn’t available for us to check. Here’s what the official bodies say about caffeine in general:
- NHS: if you’re pregnant, have no more than 200mg of caffeine a day from all sources.
- EFSA: up to 400mg a day, spread through the day, doesn’t raise safety concerns for healthy adults in the general population, except pregnant women.
- EFSA: 100mg may affect sleep in some adults if taken close to bedtime.
Decaf can help you cut down, but if caffeine is a medical question for you, speak to your GP, pharmacist or midwife. Our guide to how much caffeine is in decaf coffee explains more, and decaf vs regular coffee compares the two.
Switching between decaf and regular pods
Dolce Gusto makes switching easy. Each pod is a separate dose, so there’s no hopper or grinder to empty, unlike a bean-to-cup machine. Keep decaf boxes clearly separate from regular ones so no one picks up the wrong pod by mistake. Each pod is sealed, so an opened box keeps well, but check the best-before date printed on the box before you stock up on several.
If you find you mostly drink decaf, consider whether a different system suits you better. Our Tassimo vs Dolce Gusto vs Nespresso comparison covers the wider pod range on each system.
Recycling decaf Dolce Gusto pods
Decaf pods recycle in the same way as regular ones. Dolce Gusto pods can go through Podback, the UK’s free pod recycling scheme, using a Podback bag that you drop off or have collected, depending on your area. Podback says its Dolce Gusto bag holds around 50 pods. Our guide to whether coffee pods are recyclable in the UK has the details.
