Best decaf coffee pods: decaf options for every UK pod system

Decaf pods for Nespresso Original, Dolce Gusto and Tassimo machines, compared on price per pod at Morrisons and Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026.

Decaf has come a long way in pods. Every major UK pod system now has at least one decaf option on supermarket shelves, so you don’t have to give up your machine to cut back on caffeine in the evening. We’ve compared the best decaf coffee pods we could find for Nespresso Original, Dolce Gusto and Tassimo, on price per pod and which machine they fit. We haven’t tested this in person. Our picks are based on the retailers’ product pages and UK prices checked on 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.

Best decaf coffee pods UK: the short answer

Buy L’Or Ristretto Decaf (20 capsules) for the lowest price per pod for Nespresso Original machines. It’s £5.50 at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026, which works out at about 28p a pod. Morrisons lists it as compatible with Nespresso machines and gives an intensity of 9.

Who it isn’t for: Vertuo owners. Original-style capsules don’t fit Vertuo machines.

Get Nescafé Dolce Gusto Americano Decaffeinato for a Dolce Gusto machine. It’s £5.00 for 16 pods at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026, about 31p a pod. Morrisons also had a multi-buy on the same date, so check price at Morrisons.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a short espresso. This is an Americano-style long coffee.

Choose Tassimo Kenco Americano Decaff for a Tassimo. It’s £5.30 for 16 pods at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026, about 33p a pod. Morrisons also had a multi-buy that day, so check price at Morrisons.

Who it isn’t for: espresso drinkers. Like the Dolce Gusto option, it’s a long Americano.

Skip the premium pick unless you like the brand. Lavazza Decaf Coffee Pods are £4.99 for 10 at Currys, checked 3 Oct 2026, about 50p a pod, while several other Nespresso-compatible decafs cost under 35p.

Who it isn’t for: anyone choosing on price.

Decaf options by pod system

Nespresso Original (and compatibles). This is where you’ll find the most choice. On 3 Oct 2026, Morrisons listed decaf capsules from L’Or, Starbucks by Nespresso, Costa and its own The Best range, and Currys listed Lavazza Decaf. Morrisons says its The Best pods suit Nespresso drop-through capsule machines but not Vertuo, professional or built-in models. See our decaf Nespresso pods guide for more detail.

Nespresso Vertuo. Vertuo machines only take Vertuo pods, which are made by Nespresso. Nespresso’s own website blocked our check, so we can’t list its decaf Vertuo range or prices here.

Dolce Gusto. The Americano Decaffeinato is Nescafé’s own decaf, listed by Morrisons with an intensity of 4 and as 100% Arabica.

Tassimo. Kenco Americano Decaff, listed by Morrisons as decaffeinated roast and ground coffee in Tassimo pods.

Who it isn’t for: if your machine isn’t listed here, check the pod maker’s compatibility list before you buy.

Price per pod

Supermarket pod prices move a lot with multi-buys. On 3 Oct 2026, Morrisons had multi-buys on decaf pods, so check price at Morrisons; L’Or Espresso Ristretto Decaf 10-packs were £4.25 each. If you drink decaf every day, multi-buys can bring the per-pod cost down well below the figures in our table, so it’s worth stocking up when they run.

Who it isn’t for: if you only have the odd decaf, buy the smallest pack. Pods keep, but you’ll get the best flavour from fresher stock.

How decaf is made

Decaf coffee has most of its caffeine removed before roasting. Common methods use water, carbon dioxide or a solvent to draw the caffeine out of green coffee beans. None of the product pages we checked on 3 Oct 2026 said which process was used, so we can’t tell you for these pods. If the method matters to you, check the brand’s own site or packaging.

Caffeine: what the official guidance says

Decaf isn’t completely caffeine-free, but it has much less than regular coffee. For context on caffeine in general, the European Food Safety Authority’s caffeine page says intakes of up to 400mg a day spread through the day don’t raise safety concerns for healthy adults in the general population, except pregnant women, for whom it gives a lower figure. Our how much caffeine is in decaf coffee guide goes into more detail. If you have questions about caffeine and your own health, ask your GP or pharmacist.

Recycling decaf pods

Decaf pods recycle in exactly the same way as regular ones. Podback says aluminium pods such as Nespresso and Nespresso-compatible capsules go in a white Podback bag, and plastic pods such as Tassimo and Dolce Gusto in a green one. Its Recycle Checker shows the drop-off points and council options near you.

Downsides

  • Fewer flavours. Most systems have only one or two decaf options in supermarkets.
  • Vertuo gap. We couldn’t check Nespresso’s own decaf prices.
  • Prices change. Multi-buys and prices come and go, so check on the day.
