How to descale a Tassimo: the 10-step method with the yellow Service T DISC

Tassimo descaling step by step from Tassimo's UK instructions: the two tablets, the yellow Service T DISC, the 30-minute cycle, the rinses and model notes.

If you’re wondering how to descale Tassimo machines, the process is the same idea on every model: dissolve two descaling tablets in the tank, put the yellow Service T DISC in the brew head, and hold the start/stop button. Tassimo says the cycle takes about 30 minutes, and you then run a few rinses with fresh water. We haven’t tested this in person. The steps below are based on Tassimo’s UK descaling instructions, checked 3 Oct 2026. Check your machine’s manual for any model-specific details. Read how we compare.

When to descale your Tassimo

Tassimo says you’ll see the red descale light turn on or start flashing. Depending on your model, it looks like a spray icon or says “calc”. Tassimo recommends a full descale about four times a year to keep the machine running well.

Tassimo explains that limescale builds up with regular use, and regular descaling helps keep deposits to a minimum and the machine running smoothly.

What you need

  • Two Tassimo descaling tablets. Tassimo recommends only the official Tassimo by Bosch descaling tablets. They were £7.40 at Tassimo UK, checked 3 Oct 2026.
  • The yellow Service T DISC. This came with your machine and is usually kept in a storage slot on the machine itself.
  • A container that holds at least 500ml.
  • Fresh water for the rinses.

Tassimo warns that alternatives such as vinegar or acid-based descalers can damage your machine and affect the taste of your drinks.

Who it isn’t for: anyone hoping to use a supermarket descaler or vinegar. Tassimo’s advice is to stick with its own tablets.

How to descale Tassimo machines: step by step

These are Tassimo UK’s 10 steps.

  1. Make the descaling solution. Fill the water tank to the fill line and add two descaling tablets. Leave it until the tablets have dissolved.
  2. Insert the Service T DISC. Take the yellow Service T DISC from its storage slot and place it barcode side down in the brew head, where you’d normally put a pod.
  3. Refit the tank full of descaling solution.
  4. Place your container. Remove the cup stand and put an empty container that holds at least 500ml under the outlet.
  5. Start descaling. Press and hold the start/stop button for 5 seconds. Descaling starts automatically and takes about 30 minutes. It’s complete when the orange light comes on.
  6. Empty the container and put it back under the outlet.
  7. Rinse the tank. Rinse it out, refill with fresh water to the fill line and put it back.
  8. Run a cleaning cycle. Press the start/stop button briefly.
  9. Repeat the rinse. Tassimo says to repeat steps 6 to 8 around three to four times to flush out all the descaling solution. Then open the brew head, remove the Service T DISC and return it to its storage slot.
  10. Refill and use. Fill the tank with fresh, cool water and refit it. The machine is ready.

Who it isn’t for: anyone short of time. Allow about 30 minutes for descaling, plus the rinses.

Model notes

Tassimo’s support site has separate instructions for Harmony, Finesse, Style, Happy, My Way and Suny machines. A few differences we found:

  • My Way: Tassimo’s instructions for this model use a calc button, held for about 3 seconds, to start descaling.
  • Vivy: the Service T DISC is stored at the bottom left of the machine. Tassimo’s Vivy instructions say to run the cleaning cycle two more times after descaling.
  • Style: the Service T DISC is stored at the bottom right. For rinses, Tassimo suggests a second container that holds at least 9 fl oz.
  • My Way 2: Bosch’s spec sheet for the TAS6502GB lists an automatic cleaning and descaling programme, a BRITA water filter in the 1.3-litre tank, and Bosch descaling tablets (TCZ6004) as an optional accessory. The filter is there to help with taste and scale, but it doesn’t replace descaling. Check the manual for what to do with the filter cartridge before you start a descaling cycle.

We couldn’t find separate Tassimo instructions for the Vivy 2, so check its manual or Tassimo’s support pages for that model.

Who it isn’t for: anyone with an older or discontinued model that isn’t listed. Use the printed manual that came with the machine.

Lost your Service T DISC?

The Service T DISC is needed for both descaling and cleaning cycles. We couldn’t find an official workaround if you’ve lost yours, so contact Tassimo’s customer service for help.

Keeping your Tassimo clean between descales

Descaling and cleaning are different jobs. A cleaning cycle runs fresh water through the brewing system with the Service T DISC in the brew head, started with a quick press of the start/stop button, as in step 8 above. Tassimo suggests running one at least once a month. It’s also worth wiping the brew head and drip tray regularly, and emptying the tank rather than topping up old water.
