Nescafé Azera Americano review: what it is and how it compares

Azera Americano mixes instant coffee with finely ground roasted coffee. Here's what that means, how the Intense and Decaf versions differ, what it costs today and how it stacks up against Gold Blend.

See every pick at a glance

Nescafé Azera Americano is an instant coffee that’s mixed with finely ground roasted coffee, sold in a tin rather than a jar and pitched as a barista-style black coffee. In this Nescafé Azera Americano review we explain what that blend means, how the Americano, Intense and Decaf versions differ, what it cost when we checked on 3 Oct 2026, and how it compares with Gold Blend. We haven’t tested this in person. Our verdict is based on Nescafé UK’s product pages and UK prices checked at Morrisons on the date shown. Read how we compare.

Nescafé Azera Americano review: the short answer

Buy Azera Americano if you drink instant coffee black and want something with more body and a crema-style top. Nescafé describes it as smooth with a fruity aroma, and the finely ground coffee is what sets it apart from standard granules.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who mostly adds lots of milk. Much of what you’re paying for gets lost in a milky mug.

Choose Azera Americano Intense if you like a stronger, fuller-bodied cup. Nescafé calls it a rich roast with an intense aroma.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who finds Gold Blend strong enough already.

Skip it and buy Gold Blend if price matters most. At Morrisons on 3 Oct 2026, Gold Blend’s 95g jar cost less per kilo than any Azera tin.

Who it isn’t for: anyone specifically after the crema and body that ground coffee adds.

What it costs right now

At Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026:

  • Azera Americano 90g: Check price at Morrisons.
  • Azera Americano Intense 90g and Azera Decaf Americano 90g: check price at Morrisons.
  • Azera Americano 140g and Azera Americano Intense 140g: £8.25, the regular price, which Morrisons puts at £58.93 a kilo.
  • Azera Decaf Americano 135g: £8.25, at £61.11 a kilo.

Compare per-kilo prices on the day: two small tins can sometimes work out cheaper than one large one.

We also looked at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Ocado and Amazon as well, but they blocked our check, so we haven’t listed their prices.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants a single “best” price. Supermarket prices change often, so compare per-kilo prices on the day.

What Azera actually is

Nescafé describes Azera Americano as a blend of instant coffee and finely ground roasted coffee, made from Arabica and Robusta beans. The instant part dissolves as normal; the finely ground part is what Nescafé credits for the extra body and the layer of crema on top. You make it the same way as any instant: add hot water and stir.

Nescafé’s serving guide is one teaspoon (1.8g) to 200ml of water. By our sums, that’s about 50 mugs from a 90g tin. The 140g tin makes about 78 mugs, so at £8.25 at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026, that’s roughly 11p a mug.

Nescafé says the beans come from countries including Colombia, Brazil, Honduras, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Who it isn’t for: anyone who dislikes any trace of grounds. Finely ground coffee doesn’t fully dissolve, so a little can settle at the bottom of the mug.

Americano vs Intense vs Decaf

  • Americano: Nescafé’s description is smooth, well balanced and fruity. Sold in 90g and 140g tins.
  • Americano Intense: described as a richer roast with a fuller body and a stronger aroma. Also 90g and 140g.
  • Decaf Americano: Nescafé says it’s decaffeinated using only water. Sold in 90g and 135g tins.

All three use the same instant-plus-ground approach. Nescafé also sells other Azera products, including an Espresso and a latte-style version, but this page sticks to the Americano line.

Who it isn’t for: anyone wanting flavoured or sweetened instant. None of these three are.

How it compares with Gold Blend

Gold Blend is Nescafé’s mainstream premium instant, and we cover it in our Gold Blend review. At Morrisons on 3 Oct 2026, the 95g jar was £3.85 (£40.53 a kilo) and the 190g jar £8.35 (£43.95 a kilo). That puts Gold Blend well below the 140g Azera tin, which was £8.25 at Morrisons, or about £58.93 a kilo by our sums.

The difference is the style. Gold Blend is instant granules alone; Azera adds ground coffee for body and crema. If you drink your coffee black and notice texture, Azera is the one to try. If you add milk, Gold Blend gives you most of the convenience for less. For another smooth option, see our Kenco Smooth review.

Who it isn’t for: anyone loyal to a particular Gold Blend variant. Azera won’t taste the same.

Recycling the tin

Nescafé says the tin is fully recyclable. Remove the foil membrane, scrunch it into a ball and recycle it with kitchen foil, and recycle the plastic lid separately.

Downsides

  • Price per kilo: the 140g tin works out at £58.93 a kilo at Morrisons, checked 3 Oct 2026.
  • Inconsistent tin sizes: 90g, 135g and 140g tins make per-kilo comparisons fiddly.
  • Some sediment: a natural result of the ground coffee in the blend.
  • Less obvious with milk: the main selling point is texture in a black coffee.

Where to go next

From the maker: Nescafé UK’s Azera Americano page says it blends soluble coffee with 5% finely ground roasted coffee and calls it medium intensity, checked 3 Oct 2026.

Independent comparison: the Liverpool Echo has published a side-by-side taste comparison of Azera Americano and Aldi’s Alcafé. We haven’t summarised its findings here.
