L'OR XXL pods: what they are and which machines take them
L'OR XXL capsules are double-size pods for L'OR Barista machines only. Here's the UK range, what each costs per pod, and why they won't fit a Nespresso machine.

L’OR XXL pods are double-size coffee capsules from L’OR, and the most important thing to know is that they only fit L’OR Barista machines. They won’t go in a Nespresso Original machine, even though L’OR’s standard capsules do. This guide explains what the XXL capsules are, the range L’OR UK was selling on 3 Oct 2026, what they cost per pod and how they compare with the standard size. We haven’t tested this in person. Everything here comes from L’OR UK’s own product and support pages and the prices it showed on 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.
For the wider picture on pod systems, see our capsule coffee hub and pod machines hub.
What are L’OR XXL pods?
L’OR calls them XXL or “double” capsules. Each one holds more coffee than a standard L’OR capsule, so you get a double shot or a longer drink from a single pod. L’OR UK pitches them at full mugs, milky drinks and iced coffee.
They’re designed for the L’OR Barista system, which L’OR says it developed with Philips. According to L’OR’s how-to-use page, the machine recognises the capsule size by itself and adjusts the amount of water, so you don’t need a separate setting for XXL pods.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who only drinks short espressos. L’OR says its standard (Classic) capsules are still the better choice for espresso and lungo.
Do L’OR XXL pods fit Nespresso machines?
No. L’OR UK’s compatibility guide and XXL range page both say XXL capsules are exclusively compatible with L’OR Barista machines, and can’t be used in Nespresso Original machines or any other capsule system.
It’s easy to get confused here, because L’OR’s standard capsules are sold as Nespresso Original-compatible. L’OR’s own comparison table puts it like this:
- Classic capsules: fit Nespresso Original machines and L’OR Barista machines. For espresso, ristretto and lungo.
- XXL capsules: fit L’OR Barista machines only. For larger coffees and long drinks.
So if you own a Nespresso Original machine, stick to the standard L’OR capsules. If you own a L’OR Barista, you can use both. Nespresso Vertuo machines take neither.
Who it isn’t for: Nespresso owners hoping for a bigger cup from one pod. You’d need a L’OR Barista machine to use XXL capsules.
L’OR XXL pods: the UK range
L’OR UK listed these XXL capsules on 3 Oct 2026, all in packs of 10:
Double Ristretto (11/13). The strongest XXL blend in stock. L’OR lists flavour notes of ginger, cardamom and spice, and suggests it as a double ristretto or strong espresso.
Double Barista Selection (13/13). L’OR’s most intense XXL blend, with spicy, powerful notes. It was out of stock on L’OR UK when we checked.
Extra Long 8 (8/13). A long coffee with roasted almond, liquorice and chocolate notes, according to L’OR. It’s the only XXL blend where L’OR gives a serving size: a 220ml cup. L’OR also suggests it for iced coffee.
Double Espresso (7/13). A middle-strength blend with citrus jam and nutty notes, according to L’OR, for a double espresso or a longer coffee.
XXL Decaffeinated (6/13). The decaf option, listed for espresso.
Extra Long 5 (5/13). The mildest XXL capsule, listed for lungo.
Costa XXL. L’OR also sells two Costa-branded XXL capsules for L’OR Barista machines: Costa Dark Intense Roast XXL (9/13, dark chocolate notes, for espresso) and Costa Smooth Medium Roast XXL (7/13, for lungo). Both were marked as new.
Who it isn’t for: anyone after a flavoured pod. We didn’t see a flavoured XXL capsule in the range on 3 Oct 2026.
What L’OR XXL pods cost
Prices on L’OR UK’s XXL page, checked 3 Oct 2026:
- 10 L’OR XXL capsules: £6.29, which works out at about 63p a pod.
- 50 L’OR XXL capsules (5 x 10): Check price at L’OR UK.
- 10 Costa XXL capsules: £5.35, about 54p a pod.
- 50 Costa XXL capsules: Check price at L’OR UK.
Because each XXL pod makes a double shot or a long mug, the fairer comparison is with two standard capsules rather than one.
We didn’t find XXL capsules at Sainsbury’s or Morrisons when we searched on 3 Oct 2026. Both stocked standard L’OR capsules. We couldn’t check Tesco, as its site blocked our check.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants to pick up pods with the weekly shop. On the evidence of our checks, XXL capsules are mostly an online purchase from L’OR.
Which machines take XXL pods, and what they cost
L’OR UK lists several L’OR Barista machines, all of which take both XXL and standard capsules. On 3 Oct 2026, L’OR UK’s machine page showed:
- L’OR Barista Sublime: £115.00.
- Sublime with 70 capsules: Check price at L’OR UK.
- L’OR Barista Absolu with 100 capsules: Check price at L’OR UK. L’OR says the Absolu adds an “Enjoy Over Ice” function for iced coffee.
L’OR’s support page also names an Original model, and the machine page lists a L’OR Barista by Alessi bundle.
Who it isn’t for: anyone happy with their current Nespresso Original machine. Buying a new machine just for bigger pods rarely makes sense.
Recycling L’OR XXL pods
L’OR UK says its capsules are aluminium and recyclable. It supports Podback, the pod recycling scheme L’OR says was set up in partnership with Nespresso, Nescafé and Dolce Gusto. L’OR says it adds Podback bags to every order from its website, and you can return them at drop-off points in some supermarkets and recycling centres. Check Podback’s postcode checker for what’s available near you.
Downsides

- Prices change. Per-pod prices vary by pack size, so check price at L’OR UK for the 50-capsule packs.
- Strongest blend out of stock. Double Barista Selection was unavailable when we checked.
