Gran Lattissima review: Nespresso's big-menu Original milk machine
The Nespresso Gran Lattissima (EN640) makes milk drinks at one touch from Original pods. UK price, milk carafe, recipes, cleaning and alternatives, checked 3 Oct 2026.

This Nespresso Gran Lattissima review covers De’Longhi’s EN640, a pod machine for Nespresso Original capsules with a built-in milk carafe and one-touch milk recipes. We haven’t tested this in person. This review is based on De’Longhi UK’s product page and specifications, plus Currys’ listings for the alternatives and UK prices checked 3 Oct 2026. Read how we compare.
Nespresso Gran Lattissima review: the short answer
Buy it if your household makes several cappuccinos or lattes a day from Original pods and wants them at one touch with the milk stored in the fridge between uses.
Who it isn’t for: anyone on a tighter budget. The Lattissima One was from £209 at Currys on the same day.
Skip it if you want to texture milk yourself or pour latte art. The Creatista Plus, with a steam wand, was £349.99 at Currys (black). Nespresso Creatista Plus: Check price at Amazon for Nespresso Creatista Plus (opens in a new tab)
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants to use ground coffee or beans. This uses Original pods only.
What it costs right now
These are the prices we found on 3 Oct 2026:
- De’Longhi UK, white (EN640.W): £419, in stock. See it at De’Longhi UK
- De’Longhi UK, black (EN640.B): £419, in stock.
Neither De’Longhi page showed a Was or original price, so these are regular listed prices. The machine isn’t listed at Currys. Nespresso UK’s site blocked our checks, and John Lewis’s site didn’t respond, so we couldn’t confirm a price at either. Very also blocked our checks.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who only shops at Currys. We didn’t find it there.
Milk recipes and coffee sizes
De’Longhi UK says the Gran Lattissima offers six recipe options at the touch of a button. Its description names:
- Milk drinks: cappuccino, latte macchiato and flat white.
- Extra Hot Foam: a button for creating your own milk recipe.
- Coffee sizes: ristretto, espresso and lungo.
It uses Nespresso Original pods. The page includes a welcome set of seven pods.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants big mug-sized black coffees. De’Longhi lists ristretto, espresso and lungo as the coffee sizes. For bigger cups from pods, see our Vertuo Next review. Nespresso Vertuo Next: See it at Currys for Nespresso Vertuo Next (opens in a new tab)
Milk carafe and cleaning
De’Longhi UK says the milk carafe has a detachable lid for refilling and can be stored in the fridge between uses. Both the carafe and the removable water tank are dishwasher safe. The page also describes an easy rinsing system and a Rapid Cappuccino System for hot foam and hot milk. De’Longhi’s spec data lists the milk system as a milk carafe.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who hates washing up. The carafe still needs regular cleaning, even if the dishwasher does it.
Pump, heat-up and size
De’Longhi UK lists:
- Pump: 19 bar.
- Heat-up: 18 seconds.
- Water tank: 1.3 litres.
- Used-capsule container: 10 capsules.
- Power: 1,400W.
- Eco mode: switches off after 9 minutes.
Who it isn’t for: busy households. You’ll refill the tank and empty the used capsules often.
Running costs
The Gran Lattissima takes Nespresso Original pods, so your cost per drink depends on the capsules you buy plus the milk you use. Original-format capsules are sold by Nespresso and by other brands. Our capsule coffee hub covers pod options.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who wants to choose from the widest range of beans. Pods limit you to what’s sold in capsule form.
Who it suits
The Gran Lattissima suits households where two or more people drink milk coffees every day and nobody wants to steam milk. The fridge-friendly carafe means you can leave milk in it between drinks, and the one-touch recipes cover the usual café orders. If only one person drinks milk coffee, or only at weekends, the Lattissima One’s single-serve milk container is cheaper and simpler. If someone in the house wants to learn milk texturing, the Creatista Plus’s steam wand is a closer match, and the black version cost less at Currys (£349.99) than the Gran Lattissima at De’Longhi UK.
Who it isn’t for: anyone who mainly drinks espresso. You’d be paying for a milk system you don’t use.
Downsides

- Hard to find: we didn’t find it at Currys, and Nespresso UK and John Lewis couldn’t be checked.
- Small capacities: a 1.3-litre tank and a 10-capsule container.
- Original pods only.

- Nespresso Creatista Plus: £349.99 at Currys (black SNE800BTR) and £499.99 (stainless steel BNE800BSS), checked 3 Oct 2026, prices can change. Currys describes an automatic steam wand with 11 temperature settings and 8 texture levels, plus a stainless steel milk jug.
